Lingerie

'Lingerie' is a term, derived from the French language, for women's undergarments. They are heavily eroticised in Western culture.

Pronunciation

The word is often pronounced, in approximation of the French original, as {{IPA|/ˈlæ̃(n)ʒeri/}}. Nevertheless, alternatives like {{IPA|/'lɒndʒɘrei/}} are also common. The Oxford English Reference Dictionary gives only {{IPA|/'lɒnʒeri/}}, while the American Heritage Dictionary has {{IPA|/'laːnʒɘrei/}}, {{IPA|/'laːnʒɘri/}} and {{IPA|/'lænʒɘri/}}.
