What's on. A review of an arts events around the UK
lolly_pop said: A retrospective of work by Tracey Emin RA (1963_.) opened at the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art yesterday. Her work will be on display in Edinburgh until 9th November 2008. Much of her work, using a range of media (including needlework, sculpture, drawing, video, installation, photography and painting) is autobiographical, referring to incidents in her life. Emin communicates an honest, open and emotive manner inviting a personal response from the viewer. Missing is her embroidered tent entitled ‘Everyone I Have Ever Slept With’ (1963-1995) (destroyed in MOMA storage in 2004). Other favourites on show include ‘My Bed’ which announced her arrival, as a Turner Prize nominee, in 1999.

This first UK retrospective of his work features over 60+ paintings (from Europe, the United States and Japan). His interiors, often punctuated with a solitary figure, are articulate, precise and introspective. Portraits, landscapes and evocative city views add to this visual feast.

With the theme ‘Man-made’ this years show is coordinated by Ocean, Cragg and Benson, this years theme is man-made (including a memorial gallery to RB Kitaj).

All the pictures get stored and can be accessed at any time either through the Internet, or from inside the dome, where they can be viewed on screens. The peculiar thing is how the screens show the photographs - they react on the viewer. The closer the viewer moves to the screen, the farther the capture memory recedes.Basically, you see what was on the other side of the screen, a few hours/days ago, depending on how close to the screen you stand. Here's a youtube vid that first caught my interest: [url="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W4WZdLGDtbA"]click{/url]
