I'm currently researching the idea of diversity within an Artists praxis for an essay I'm writing in my final year of my degree. I'm hoping that any Artists could share their views and feelings on this subject. How do you feel about this? Do you prefer to develop your own style using a rigid formula that shows progression and development or do you feel this approach is to rigid for your own particular practice. Please share your feelings with me on this subject and if possible e-mail your responses to me at wade1975@hotmail.co.uk Thanks, Wade 2 replies to this topic.

In my opinion it's all about making a living. Do you live in relative poverty (like Mondrian) a slave to your work, leaving a legacy to the world (or do you produce work that is financially viable?). Some choose to work in an alternate profession, devoting time to their art outside of this scenario dictates. It could be argued that Picasso was the greatest ‘Fine Art’ business person of his generation. He constantly reinvented himself, continuously selling work to his patrons etc. Upon his death I believe his home itself was worth £12 million. L. S. Lowry was as a middle class observer who exploited the fashion for the primitive genre, at a time when northern working class culture was of great interest to London’s affluent middle class ‘intelligentsia’. He looked after his people, but probably laughed all the way to the bank. page 1 of 1
